It’s the biggest music festival in Israel, featuring some of the world’s best known performers. In its 23rd year the jazz festival in the port of Eilat attracted music aficionados from all over the world and all over Israel, who together marked the end of summer with great music and musical greats.

As always, the festival featured top-notch international talent, but this year young artists and Israeli groups were headlined as well.

The jazz festival appeals to all ages. Artistic director Avishai Cohen, an accomplished musician in his own right, reminisces, “I remember myself as a young boy going to the jazz festival with big name people – and it excited me very much then and it excites me very much now.

Cohen’s prolific musical background includes stints with musical greats like Chick Corea and Bobby McFerrin.

Cohen brought an eclectic mix of musicians to the various stages, including DeeDee Bridgewater, John Scofield, Paquita de Ribera and other legends. Music styles ranged from oud and guitar merging eastern and western influences to a marriage between jazz and flamenco and local funk.
