Israeli choreographer Ohad Naharin received the 2009 Dance Magazine Award at a ceremony in New York last week.

Naharin received the award for both Gaga, the dance language that he has developed over the past 20 years, and for his entire body of work.

“During the last two decades, Naharin’s pioneering approach and unforgettable choreography injected a catalyzing, invigorating force into Israel’s rising dance scene… the choreographer’s influence can [also] be felt abroad, where there is a growing clamor for Gaga classes and an insatiable appetite for his creations,” writes Deborah Friedes Galili in Dance Magazine, one of the world’s most influential dance publications.
