April 25, 2016

A great week in sports for Israeli athletes as judokas, a wrestler and a race car driver all took the podium – each in his or her specific sport.

Judoka Ori Sasson (100-kg), the country’s heaviest fighter, posted a second consecutive second place finish at the European Judo Championships. Sasson won the silver medal in the contest held in Kazan, Russia.

At the same contest, judoka Timna Nelson Levy (U57-kg) won a bronze medal for her debut performance at the top tier competition.

Sasson is expected to compete in Rio de Janeiro 2016 Games, however, despite her great performance at the Euros, Nelson Levy is not expected to make the Olympic roster.

But Israel’s Olympic list will include wrestler Ilana Kratysh. The 25-year-old freestyle wrester will be the first-ever Israeli woman to compete in the wrestling events at the Olympic Games after winning the World Qualification Tournament in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

And race car driver Roy Nissany captured second place in the Formula V8 3.5 series in Budapest on April 24.
