Early this month, the Tourism Ministry launched an Israel tourism application for iPhones that finds a user’s location and provides immediate and updated information on sites, tours, accommodation and events taking place in his or her area in Israel.

The free application provides iPhone users with maps and augmented reality to direct them to the desired location, as well as information about a variety of heritage sites, family entertainment, nature reserves, active leisure options, archeology and museums, with accompanying photographs. An additional feature is the opportunity to build an individual tour. The information is to be updated by the Tourism Ministry and the relevant tourism bodies.

iPhone users can also upload their own photographs and comments in real time to social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

Launched in English and Hebrew, the application will soon be translated into Russian, German, French and other languages. Information about public transport, gas stations, hospitals, etc. will be added in the future.

The application is being marketed via the ministry’s multi-language website and at various tourism offices throughout Israel and overseas.
