Israel’s Foreign Ministry is sending 13 Netafim drip-irrigation systems this week to small farms in Paraguay’s San Pedro province as part of the “Family Drip System” project between Israel and Paraguay’s Federation of Production Cooperatives.
“Through this project, small farmers in San Pedro have access for the first time to drip-irrigation systems. Producers will use it for growing vegetables such as tomatoes, sweet peppers and carrots, and will be assisted by the federation,” reported the Israeli Embassy in Asuncion.
Netafim is a world leader in the development of modern drip irrigation. Its systems are expected to help farmers achieve greater crop yield using half the amount of water regardless of the type of soil.
The technical cooperation project was led by Paraguayan agronomist Edgar Figueredo, a graduate of a training program sponsored by the Israel Foreign Ministry’s MASHAV Agency for International Development Cooperation.
Last January, following severe flooding in Paraguay, Israeli Ambassador to Paraguay Peleg Lewi authorized the donation of PYG 60,000,000 ($10,150) worth of emergency supplies for displaced families.
