Traveling Israel by video

From Benjamin Millepied’s Dead Sea landscapes to tourists running the roofs of the country, amazing new videos show Israel at its best.

The recent release of CBS News Travel Editor Peter Greenberg’s “Israel: The Royal Tour” has been heavily promoted among travel videos showing off Israel’s landscapes. That Israel was included in this ongoing series is exciting. But any social media viewer can tell you about other fantastic viewing options just a click away.

Take French choreographer/director Benjamin Millepied’s mesmerizing and sensual project Forest Swords: The Weight of Gold. Millepied, Natalie Portman’s husband who is in Israel thanks to her directorial debut, fell in love with the Dead Sea landscape and decided to use it as his muse for a music-travel video.

He took British artist Forest Swords’ haunting track “The Weight of Gold” and directed American dancer Billy Barry, of the Batsheva Ensemble, in one of the most talked-about alternative music videos on the web right now. Watch it here

Another video wowing audiences at home is professional performance team 3Run’s extraordinary tour of Israel. The parkour free-running specialists, Vasily Patrakov and Alex Chigretskiy, spent two weeks traveling Israel by rooftop. With Go-Pro cameras attached to their bodies, these two sandal-sporting tourists jumped their way across Israel in some very oh-my-god-are-they-crazy leaps. Take a deep breath and enjoy.

If you need a snack break after those two videos, “EmmyMade in Japan” has a second Israeli food installment. Emmy Eats Israel – the first travel food adventure video by the YouTube sensation – proved so popular that viewers sent Emmy more treats to taste and review: strawberry Bamba, Shtuchim, a coconut bar and cinnamon gum. Watch it here.

ISRAEL21c also has made dozens of short videos spotlighting different places in Israel. From “Happy Tel Aviv-Yafo” to “Holy Capoeira” in Jerusalem, we’ve got more than 700 YouTube videos showing the country’s “best of” in short, fun installments.
