Israeli high-tech takes a bite out of the Big Apple

Bizzabo, BillGuard, Fiverr, Wix, Kenshoo – the list goes on for Israeli high-tech firms with a New York City presence. After all, the Israeli startup community has taken a big bite out of the Big Apple.
Until a few weeks ago, there wasn’t one specific forum to go to where you could find everyone.
Enter IsraeliMappedinNY the latest service to map start-up companies operating in a city. Guy Franklin, a senior auditor/consultant at Ernst & Young’s New York office, the creative force behind the site, cites Mapped in Israel and Made in NY as his inspirations.
Franklin had previously worked on the Mapped in Israel version of the mapping service.
The mapping trend began in May 2012, when New York launched Made in NY and put little interactive computer icons on a city map. Each icon represented a startup company operating in the city.
Both map sites – the one in New York and the one in Israel – were immediately bookmarked by thousands.
The startup maps were the Wikipedias of high-tech companies. With a click of the mouse, you could see where the company is located, what they do, who runs them and whether they’re hiring.
The maps have been used to keep the high-tech community in touch. They’re also a great go-to-source for companies seeking investors or vice versa.
Newcomer IsraeliMappedinNY “converges New York startups that were either founded by Israeli entrepreneurs or are present in Israel,” writes Franklin on his decision to create the site. “Through this site, the Israeli startup community can stay connected.”
