The 4th annual Tel Aviv Photo exhibition opened this week at Pavilion 16 of Yerid Hamizrach (the Orient Fairgrounds) at the Tel Aviv port. Tel Aviv Photo is intended to provide the artists with audience exposure, offering photography lovers and collectors works for sale at reasonable prices.

The exhibition — the brainchild of curators Dalit Merhav and Hila Tadmor — has this year expanded to join forces with a number of well-known local galleries to present works by professional as well as beginning photographers representing all areas of the field: commercial, art, fashion, journalism, documentary, and more.

Abir Sultan began his professional career in the Israeli army at the IDF Spokesperson’s film unit and has worked as a photojournalist Israeli news daily Yedioth Ahronoth, and for news photoagencies Bluepress and Flash90. He is now a staff photographer for the  European Pressphoto Agency.

Daniel Bar-On is a staff photographer for news daily Haaretz. His photo depicting Israeli protesters in front of the Turkish embassy in Tel Aviv following the violent 2010 Gaza flotilla incident, won the Local Testimony photo competition for that year.

Jerusalem-based Sasha Tamarin is an art photographer whose works often hark back to the Soviet Union of his youth. He states, “My work is driven by the need to return to my birthplace, in order to analyze the factors that affected my identity development. My childhood memories are built from stories, images and dreams. When I finally get physically to the remembered scenes, I usually find that the reality is different from that developed in my mind over the years.”

Tamarin is also co-founder and curator of The Garlic Bread, an online magazine dedicated to highlighting young art photographers from Israel and abroad.

More works by these artists and many others (read the Israel21c story about award-winner Gali Tibbon) are on show and for sale at Tel Aviv Photo 2014 which runs through tomorrow night (March 22) at Pavilion 16, Yerid Hamizrach (the Orient Fairgrounds) at the Tel Aviv port.
