Innovators, entrepreneurs and healthcare professionals are now taking part in a first-of-its-kind hackathon to tackle the most pressing healthcare challenges facing poor people in India. The event is taking place in four locations in India and Israel.
In Israel, teams taking part in the MED4DEV hackathon are working out of the Google Campus and Tel Aviv University.
Altogether, 1,000 participants are gathering simultaneously in Tel Aviv, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bangalore, to develop innovative ideas and prototype solutions (hardware and software) to address healthcare challenges of lower-middle income communities in India.
Seemant Jauhari, CEO, Research & Innovations, Apollo Hospitals, is in town for the Israeli part of the hackathon. Jauhari will give the keynote address at the event today.
Teams are competing for cash prizes, mentoring packages, and placements in an Indian-Israeli healthcare accelerator to help them transform their ideas into successful ventures.
The hackathon also aims to develop bridges between the Israeli and Indian innovation ecosystems.
The MED4DEV Hackathon is being organized by the Pears Program for Global Innovation, a partner of OLAM, an organization promoting global Jewish service and international development, made up of 44 partner organizations from Israel and the Jewish world.
The event is in collaboration with Google, The Office of the Chief Scientist, The Export Institute, Tel Aviv University, Startup Nation Central, Creators by Terra lab Ventures and leading Indian VCs including I3N (by intellecap), Unitus Seed Fund, Mentera, Villgro, Aarin Capital.
