Israeli rescue and medical teams have flown to Haiti as part of an international effort to help the earthquake-struck country.

The teams of Israeli aid workers sent by ZAKA, the Foreign Ministry and IsraAid, are working hard to locate and free survivors from under the rubble left by last Tuesday's earthquake, and also provide aid to the million of Haitians who have been left homeless and desolate.

The death toll in the wake of the earthquake is thought to be about 140,000 people, and a third of Haiti's nine million people are believed to require help.

The Israeli delegation arrived on Friday and has set up headquarters near the country's airport.
