Israel’s Solaris Synergy is the Best Solar company in the world, according to the Global Cleantech Cluster Association (GCCA).

The award-winning Solaris is renowned for its solar energy grids that can float on water, reducing energy production costs, and preventing water loss.

The GCCA Later Stage Award commended Solaris for its “utilization of ‘industrial’ water surfaces in order to reduce the use of land resources, while simultaneously preserving water quantity and quality.”

“Our Top 10 winners are truly the best in class and companies to watch,” says Ben Taube, Chairman of the GCCA. “In each category, these companies are making both broad strides in their global industries as well as working closely with their regional cleantech clusters to build sustainable green economies and jobs. We are thrilled to name them the GCCA Global Top 10 for 2011.”

The winners were selected from an original pool of 4,000 companies. They were judged by 28 cleantech venture capitalists, investors and serial entrepreneurs who collectively manage $3.5 billion in clean technology investment.

Solaris was founded in 2008 and is located in Jerusalem. It is backed by Israel’s National Infrastructures Ministry and US private equity funds. Solaris has contracts with Mekerot, Israel’s national water company and largest consumer of electricity, and France’s EDF, the world’s largest utility company.
