Israeli company Brainsway, is to conduct a clinical trial for its Deep TMS transcranial magnetic stimulation device at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System, a Department of Veterans Administration research center.

The device is already in clinical trials for treatment of a range of illnesses from depression to manic depression and schizophrenia. In the new trial, which is to be conducted and financed by the Veterans Administration, the effectiveness of the device will be tested on patients suffering from obesity.

The trial, which will be led by Dr. Steven Forman, will include 56 subjects, half of whom will be treated with the Deep TMS device, and the other half will undergo a sham trial. The subjects will be monitored by MRI scans to analyze their responses to the treatment.
