Jul. 07 – BBC Radio 3 is to celebrate Tel Aviv’s 100th centennial on July 12 with a program dedicated to the city. The broadcast is to be hosted by Moshe Morad, a Tel Aviv-born music expert and presenter. The focus of the show will be the “heady mix of sin and serious” that Tel Aviv offers. The broadcast follows Morad on a stroll along Tel Aviv’s beach where he meets some of the city’s local characters, both Jewish and Arab, and examines their different takes on the city. Among the people he will meet are Chief Rabbi, Israel Lau, artist Danny Karavan, who helped Tel Aviv be recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site; hip hop group Subliminal; peace activist Yael Dayan; and coffee shop owner Sara Stern, who fought in the British army in the 1930s and 1940s. The State of Tel Aviv airs at midnight (Israel time) on Sunday, July 12.
